Upcoming Major Production

Sylvia

Habersham Community Theatre will mark the end of its 2007-2008 season with Sylvia, a modern adult romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog.

A married couple, Greg and Kate, move to Manhattan after 22 years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities.

Greg brings home a dog he found in the park bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. Sylvia offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. As for Kate, she’s a rival for Greg’s affection.

The production dates for Sylvia, directed by Millie Adcox are August 1-3, 7-9.

HCT Wings

Thanks to all the volunteers and patrons who made the Potty Party a successful, fun evening. If you are interested in becoming involved "backstage" at HCT, consider becoming a member of the HCT Wings.

HCT WINGS is a support arm of the theatre with two primary purposes: getting more people involved in volunteer activities at the theatre and helping HCT operate more efficiently and professionally.

Millie Adcox, President of HCT Wings, said, “There are so many functions in the theatre where volunteers could be used that we can truly say we have a job for everyone! Whether your interests lie in helping with an actual production, assisting with ticket sales, box office, or concessions, developing and maintaining various databases useful for more efficient handling of mailings, tickets, membership lists, etc, organizing and staging a fund raiser, or merely helping prepare mail-outs and delivering flyers about upcoming events, there is a niche for you at HCT.

One of the best parts about being a WINGS member is that you decide what you want to do and how much time you want to spend in your volunteer activity so you don’t have to worry about being overloaded with functions that are of no interest to you. You can work as much or as little as you want.”

WINGS Vice-President Barbara Grizzard said, “We are so excited about the possibilities that will be offered through membership in WINGS. We are fortunate in Habersham County to have a wealth of retirees who love to get involved with their community, as well as many other adults and young people who enjoy participating.

Our planning group already has several ideas on the drawing board for fund-raisers and other community-involvement activities. We are especially interested in having young adults sign up for WINGS because we seriously want to get some special events arranged for children in our area.”

Wings meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. There are E-mail notices of items of interest, opportunities to be involved, and relating to meetings.
