Upcoming Major Production
Sylvia
Habersham Community Theatre will mark the end of its 2007-2008 season with Sylvia, a modern adult romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog.
A married couple, Greg and Kate, move to Manhattan after 22 years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities.
Greg brings home a dog he found in the park bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. Sylvia offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. As for Kate, she’s a rival for Greg’s affection.
The production dates for Sylvia, directed by Millie Adcox are August 1-3, 7-9. For more information, please call the theatre at 706-839-1315

| Grants Awarded
Donations update
HCT has recently been deeded the "alley" to the right of the building from Bruce Kenan. This generous gift affords space to create
a "wing" area for stage right and to improve the loading area. This gift and the donation of time and expertise from Kitty Miller of Lovell, Duvall, and Miller to provide the land survey and from Oliver & Weidner, LLC, for legal work in preparing and recording documents is deeply appreciated.
Among other gifts and donations of is the carpet for the dressing room donated by Brad Lewallen of Northeast Georgia Carpets. Also, our costume closet is expanding beautifully with many donations of many types of clothing, some vintage and all well loved. Many thanks to you all!
A mystery challenge grant was activated in 2006 by an anonymous donor. The challenge was to match .50 of the original $1000 donation to the dollar of other donations to this project alone, resulting in the amount of $3000. Thanks to our donors and sponsorsthis has been accomplished. This amount was applied toward a new, much needed marquee. HCT is grateful and happy to announce the successful conclusion of that matching grant in the fall of 2006.
In memory of her husband Glenn W. "Jack" Ellard,
Mrs. Ellard donated $25,000 to the theater in April. Mr. Ellard, a well known lawyer, served in several capacities in Habersham County and for the state of Georgia. For thirty-three years he was Clerk of the House of Representatives
under nine governors. This generous amount was designated as funds for further Renovation. The lobby has been renamed
the Ellard Lobby in recognition and appreciation of this generous memorial. A watercolor portrait of Mr. Ellard by
Carol Palmer is located in the Ellard Lobby.
HCT is deeply appreciative of all the grants and donations from private individuals that we have received.
These have been applied to the Renovation Fund and enabled us to begin the basic renovation which our audiences,
staff, casts, and crews are enjoying immensely. Following are the grants we have been honored to receive.
The Frances Wood Wilson Foundation, Inc. awarded a grant of $10,000 to HCT.
This grant has been used for the building renovation.
HCT also is very grateful for the grant of $1,000 received from the Turner Foundation, Inc. This grant was authorized by Ted Turner, Turner Foundation Trustee.
A grant from the McNeeley Foundation of $1500 was very much appreciated, as was the $1000 from Mountain Meadows Estates.
The City of Clarkesville sponsored HCT in the successful quest for a loan of $123,000 from the Downtown Development Authority.
This is not a grant, but a loan with a mortgage that is being paid from operating funds.
Now that the basic renovation is accomplished and a new marquee installed, attention is focused on items such as equipment needed for the stage, a new loading dock door, finishing paint and floor coverings for the upstairs rehearsal, storage, tech booth, and
office. An original design has been created for Art Deco style wall sconces in the auditorium.
All of these items are ones that are not provided for in the general operating fund, but must come from donations of community support.
